Accessibility
for Everyone
DR BetterSelf Recovery House is committed to making our website and digital services accessible and usable for all people including those with disabilities because everyone deserves equal access to recovery care.
DR BetterSelf Recovery House believes that every person regardless of ability deserves equal access to information about our luxury recovery services. We are committed to ensuring that our website is perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for all users, including people who rely on assistive technologies.
This Accessibility Statement explains the standards we aim to meet, the features we have implemented to improve access, the limitations we are currently working to address, and how you can contact us if you encounter any accessibility barriers on our website.
We view accessibility as an ongoing commitment, not a one-time task. Our team continuously reviews and improves the website to expand and enhance its accessibility over time.
Our Conformance Goal: WCAG 2.1 Level AA
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. WCAG 2.1 defines how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, cognitive, and neurological disabilities. We are currently working toward partial conformance and improving with each site update.
Website Accessibility Standards & WCAG Compliance
WCAG 2.1 is organized around four core principles. Here is our current effort and status for each:
Perceivable
Content and UI components presentable to users through senses including sight, hearing, and touch.
In ProgressOperable
All UI components and navigation are operable users can interact via keyboard, mouse, or assistive device.
Largely MetUnderstandable
Information and UI operation are clear and consistent content is readable, predictable, and error-tolerant.
Largely MetWe use the WCAG 2.1 specification as our reference standard. Our team performs accessibility reviews with each major update to the site and addresses identified issues in priority order based on severity and user impact.
Screen Reader Compatibility & Assistive Technology
Our website is designed with screen reader compatibility as a core priority. We implement the following technical practices to support users of assistive technologies:
Semantic HTML Structure
Proper use of headings, landmarks, lists, and structural elements for logical content navigation.
ARIA Landmark Roles
Navigation, main, aside, and footer landmarks help screen reader users jump between major page sections.
Descriptive Alt Text
All meaningful images include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes.
Descriptive Link Text
Links use meaningful text that conveys their destination or purpose not vague phrases like "click here."
We test our site with NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver screen readers to identify and resolve compatibility issues. If you experience difficulties with your assistive technology, please contact us directly.
Keyboard Navigation
Our website is fully navigable without a mouse. Keyboard users can access all features and content using standard keyboard controls.
- Tab key: Move forward through interactive elements
- Shift + Tab: Move backward through elements
- Enter / Space: Activate buttons and links
- Arrow keys: Navigate within menus and lists
- Visible focus indicators maintained on all interactive elements
- Skip to main content link at the top of every page
Mobile Accessibility
Our website is built mobile-first, ensuring a fully accessible experience on smartphones and tablets for all users, including those using touch-based assistive technologies.
- Touch targets meet minimum 44×44px size requirements
- Responsive layout adapts to all screen sizes without horizontal scrolling
- Compatible with iOS VoiceOver and Android TalkBack
- Pinch-to-zoom enabled text is not locked at a fixed size
- Tap-friendly navigation with clear, well-spaced interactive elements
Visual Accessibility
We apply a number of visual design and coding practices to support users with low vision, color blindness, or other visual impairments:
Color Contrast
We aim for a minimum 4.5:1 contrast ratio for body text and 3:1 for large text and UI components, per WCAG AA requirements.
Scalable Text
Font sizes are set in relative units (rem/em) and scale correctly when users increase browser text size up to 200%.
No Color-Only Information
We do not rely solely on color to convey meaning. Icons, text labels, and patterns complement color use.
Readable Typography
Line height of at least 1.6, adequate paragraph spacing, and a maximum line length of approximately 80 characters for comfortable reading.
Known Limitations
We are committed to transparency about areas of our website that do not yet fully meet our accessibility targets:
- Some third-party embedded content (e.g., booking widgets) may have accessibility limitations outside our direct control
- Older PDF documents may not be fully tagged for screen reader access we are updating these progressively
- Some decorative animation elements may require reduced-motion preference detection in progress
If you encounter any issue not listed here, please let us know so we can prioritize a fix.
Continuous Improvements
Accessibility is never finished. Our ongoing improvement process includes:
- Regular accessibility audits with each major website update
- User feedback review and prioritization of reported issues
- Training team members on accessible content creation
- Testing with automated tools (Axe, Lighthouse, WAVE)
- Manual testing with real screen readers and keyboard-only navigation
